Reflection #1
During our research stage of our universal topic we learned that multiple companies are actually trying to create “artificial intelligence”. I thought that it was only a theory or idea that has not been worked on but I was wrong. We have not changed our topic. I think we won’t change our topic because we really enjoy robotics. Before I wanted to play basketball, I was interested in engineering and robotics. I still am but as a 2nd option career. Our topic fits the generalizations of the universal topic, adaptation. I hope to find information on how it could positively affect humans on a larger scale. Maybe also how it could negatively affect us. Our collaboration is going well so far. I like working with Matthew and Jordan. They work well and help me out when I need help. I go to Matthew’s house every Saturday and Jordan lives right next to me so it works out really well. I have enjoyed symposium so far.
Reflection #2
The idea of our project has changed a lot. When we started symposium we imagined just doing it on the ethics of artificial intelligence. It wasn’t too good of a topic and many others were doing it. We made our topic interesting by making it about A.I. and how they could continue human faults such as racial discrimination and bias. For our student led research plan we are doing an interview. I think an interview is more convenient because we get answers from reliable people and it is simple. We can’t do other options like a survey because most kids don’t know about artificial intelligence. We can’t do survey because we are not qualified at all to be conducting something that big. I think the easiest part to do will be the Student led research part since we just have to email the person and the person has to respond back. The most difficult part for us was finding the articles and annotating them.
Reflection #3
Since the last time that we wrote about our research, we learned through an interview that A.I can inherit biases through its programming and its environment. I learned that I work well with others so long as they do work and give ideas. For our project we will do a sculpture. We will build the head of an A.I robot with algorithm wires going into the head and out of the mouth wires saying “racism” will come out. Our collaboration for some of us is going well. Matthew and me worked really hard on the ISD and on completing our board. We are now working hard to complete our creative piece. Matthew really helps a lot since he gives advice, ideas, and can do work when I can’t do it. Our trifold board has a drawing of an A.I robot and a human back to back while connecting together like a venn diagram. This shows that A.I and humans have similarities. The A.I has more faces extending to the right showing that humans have adapted more than robots and the many cultures that exist. On top of the drawing is a black thought bubble that represents the thoughts of humans and A.I. The reason it is black is because it clouds people’s judgment and makes them have ideas of racism.
